A group of thirteen young men from four assemblies gathered at Pine Bush Bible Camp in Bloomingburg, NY from June 16-19 for a study fully sponsored by our Timotheos Project ministry.
The Timotheos Project is a ministry launched by Bethany Chapel (Yonkers, NY) in 2022 with a goal of training the next generation of church leaders so they may be well equipped to take on leadership roles in their local assemblies. The primary means of working towards this goal is through intensive Bible studies like this one, in which Scripture is rightly divided by faithful men of God. The studies also provide opportunity for those mature in the faith to encourage and disciple those younger in the faith.
The conference began on the evening of June 16 with dinner, followed by the first two of 10 sessions led by Scott Dunkerton of Kenilworth Gospel Chapel. Scott spoke on the Holy Spirit, with a focus on understanding His person, presence, and purpose.
In addition to Scott's messages, the young men were also able to hear from a handful of Bible teachers both in-person and virtually.
On the first evening they heard from David Dunlap of Land O’Lakes Bible Chapel, who joined the young men in-person. David discussed the flawed view of amillennialism and focused on what the Scriptures say about the millennial reign of Christ.
The following evening, they heard from Brian Gunning of Brockview Bible Chapel who joined virtually. Brian spoke on experientialism, and how knowledge is in Christ (Col. 2:3-8), rather than the experientialist view that knowledge is based on personal experience.
Rigo Moreira of Fairbluff Bible Chapel was the second virtual speaker, and he spoke on tithing and being a steward of God with both our time and that which we are blessed with.
In between the sessions, the young men had time for fellowship. They participated in activities such as basketball, swimming, ultimate frisbee.
They also had time for spiritual discussions with Scott, David, and Ezequiel Montes on the topics they were studying and other questions they had related to God’s Word.
On the second day of the conference, they also went on a hike at a local preserve. During the hike, one of the young men, Elijah Clifford, shared thoughts on Matthew 4:19 and being a "fisher of men" – striving towards the Great Commission given by Christ in Matthew 28:16-20.
Our third annual Young Men's Intensive Study was a blessing to all those involved. We are thankful to those who supported the ministry through their prayers, financial support, and in-person help leading up to and during the week of the conference. All the young men were able to attend this conference free of charge due to some gifts made to our “Bethany Chapel Timotheos Project DAF” at Legacy Ministry Services, including a grant from an assembly ministry interested in supporting our initiative.
Lord willing, we will continue this study and seek to expand to additional studies at other camps in the area in the future. We ask that you continue to keep this ministry in your prayers and that you encourage the young men in your midst to join us at our future studies. You can stay up to date with the Lord's future plans for us by requesting to join our mailing list by emailing us at timotheosproject@gmail.com.
